‘The Crown’ Prepares for the Curtain Call as Netflix Announces the Cast of the Final Series

There’s news from the palace, as Netflix finalizes the cast for the final season of The Crown.

As the popular series draws to a close, Netflix has been revealing the cast who’ll be taking the throne one last time. Jonathan Pryce, whose most notable roles include the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones is the latest addition to the cast to be announced as Prince Philip for seasons five and six. The Crown is unique in its casting strategy, which sees a fresh array of faces every two seasons. Imelda Staunton will be taking lead from Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II, joined by Lesley Manville who’ll be giving her spin to Princess Margaret after Helena Bonham Carter’s portrayal.

The Crown has already taken the world by storm with its absorptive insight into royal life, winning critical acclaim in previous years. This year is no different with 13 Emmy nominations, including potential awards for some of the leading ladies and Outstanding Drama Series. While there was some speculation about the last installment of the show, fans were delighted when it was announced the story would be continued. Sadly, it was also confirmed by director Peter Morgan that this season would definitely be the last.

Nevertheless, the show is sure to go out with a bang as its final plotline is anchored in the 90s to illuminate some of the seminal events that shaped royal life in this decade. Josh O’Connor (aka Young Prince Charles) has promised high-octane drama, saying that portraying the complexities of Charles had been a “thrilling experience.”
