The world is one shade closer to a “Midnight Sky” as a new angel has received its wings.

As reported by People, Saturday, August 23rd, Miley Cyrus’s grandmother, Loretta Finley, sadly passed away. The singer refers to her grandmother as “Mammie” and the two held a very close relationship. Miley paid tribute to her beloved grandmother in a beautiful post on Instagram the same day.

Miley captioned the heartfelt mourning Instagram post as follows: “Even though you are gone… NOTHING has or ever will change. You will FOREVER be my inspiration and fashion icon. Even more than that, the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world. You are sunshine. Everyday I wake and see that fiery ball in the sky I will see your face.”

The singer-songwriter continues saying, “Then say a prayer thanking heaven above for giving me the best grandmother a girl could ever be gifted. I will miss you for the rest of my life… I will keep your spirit here by continuing to do good for others and treating them the way we all desire to be treated. With an infinite amount of the same gentle kindness you displayed daily. We will ache everyday you are not with us….”

Miley is known for bringing “Mammie” to red carpet events, even having made an appearance on The Voice. She has had a portrait of her grandmother tattooed on her arm since 2013. Finely lived to be 85-years-old.

“Even though you are gone…. NOTHING has or ever will change. You will FOREVER be my inspiration and fashion icon. Even more than that the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world. You are sunshine,” Cyrus tweeted in honor of her grandmother.

We are aching for you and your family’s loss, Miley.
