Netflix

Netflix has just released the first trailer for the new original movie, Hillbilly Elegy, with Amy Adams and Glenn Close.

Based on J.D Vance’s 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy explores the relationship between Appalachian’s mother and daughter Bev (Amy Adams) and Mamaw (Glenn Close). The narrative is told from Vance’s point of view, played by Gabriel Basso. Basso is a current Yale Law student, Bev’s son, as well as a former Marine. He is very close to landing his dream job and trying to navigate his relationship with his mother and the memories he has of his grandmother, Mamaw. Adams and Close are Oscar-nominated actresses, and their performance has placed the film in the running for the upcoming Oscar season.

Co-founder of Imagine Entertainment, Ron Howard will direct the film. Howard is known for his role in the Television show, Opie, on The Andy Griffith Show. Recently, Howard has been working on documentaries, with some notable ones being The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years, and Pavarotti.

Hillbilly Elegy has been in development since 2017 when Imagine acquired the rights to Vance’s memoir. Netflix joined the project in 2019 after winning a competitive bidding process to finance the movie. Hillbilly Elegy will be released on Netflix on November 24 and will be in select theaters around the country all November.
