The series creator, Joshua Safran, talked to Entertainment Tonight explaining how while the series takes place in the same world, the characters are all their own. In this way, Gossip Girl can be renewed for Gen Z with a new take on social culture. Safran has also been quoted stating that these characters will be more queer and diverse than the original.

Safran has also discussed that the old characters are highly mentioned by the new cast so they highly influence this new class of Upper East Siders. While it’s rumored that the old cast may return for a few cameos, we do know for certain that Kristen Bell is slated to return to narrate the reboot.

Despite production beginning now, die-hard fans will have to wait until next year for the series release on HBO Max. When that happens, we can look to Thomas Doherty, Emily Alyn Lind, and Whitney Peak as just a few names who will become our new icons just like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester.
