Shawn Mendes Shares How His Relationship With Camila Cabello Impacted Him in a Positive Way
Shawn Mendes talks about the positive changes he has had since being in a relationship with Camila Cabello.
It has been a bit over a year since the couple has formed. Recently, Mendes shared how being in a relationship with Cabello has changed him. The “If I Can’t Have You,” singer mentions he hadn’t made an effort to stay connected with his family and friends prior to the relationship, since he was focused on his career. He added that Cabello is constantly in touch with her friends and family, which reminded him how important it is to bond with loved ones.
He told Billboard, “For seven years, I was on such a speedy path down one way with blinders on, and I wasn’t keeping in touch with my family and friends. But when I landed with Camila, immediately she had her family around more. She’s all about the family and friends, and it really made me like, ‘Oh, I should call my mom’… I felt a little bit alone out there, and she changed that for me.”
When the singer tried to reconnect with his family and friends, he felt the connection was a bit distant due to not being in touch for a long time, making him feel lonely. However, fortunately, having Cabello by his side changed that.
The singer also shared his thoughts about the importance of self-love while being in a relationship in the new Apple Music’s Zane Lowe interview. He mentions it is crucial to focus on loving and prioritizing yourself first, as it allows you to have more energy for your loved ones. While staying in quarantine, the couple had made sure to make time for themselves.
Mendes also stated, “A lot happens when you fall in love for the first time because you really feel this support, this grounded, ‘Hey, if everything goes away, I’m going to be OK. It’s perspective, and it’s beautiful. And it really allows you to be like, ‘OK, well, if I’m going to do this [make music, etc.], I might as well be doing it for the right reasons and really, really, really enjoying it.’ Otherwise, I’d just rather watch movies with you all day.”
