‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Sets Record for the Most Views in a Scripted Limited Series on Netflix

NETFLIX

After the release of The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix, two weeks later, it has monopolized 62 million household views, setting the record for the most views for a scripted limited series from Netflix.

The series, containing only seven episodes, began streaming on October 23. It has already been ranked as Netflix’s Top 10 in 92 countries and is No. 1 in 63 countries.

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the drama about an orphan with a brilliant mind. After learning chess from the janitor at her orphanage, Beth Harmon becomes a known figure in the world of chess. The chess prodigy struggles with drugs, loss, and the madness that comes with being a genius.

Though Harmon faces many obstacles, like the temptation of the drugs that got her through so much of her young life and the path to becoming a world champion, she also meets people along the way that encourage her to continue her passion.

Harmon makes the past time of chess look so interesting that there has been an increase in interest with many fans learning to play. The show was inspired by the book written by Walter Tevis in 1983. Despite coming out 37 years ago, this book has made a comeback due to the show and has become a New York Times bestseller.

The multitude of fans from every corner of the world can attest to the show’s beauty, but the broken record speaks for itself. You can stream all seven episodes of The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix.
