Jazmine Sullivan’s extended play, Heaux Tales, offers fans glimpses into various women’s lives through dialogue tracks and songs.

While Heaux Tales is Sullivan’s fourth offering after 2008’s “Fearless,” 2010’s “Love Me Back” and “Reality Show” in 2015, this is her first released EP.

The release of Heaux Tales follows three singles, “Lost One,” “Pick Up Your Feelings” and “Girl Like Me (feat. H.E.R.)” and a 48-second teaser trailer released Dec. 2, 2020, on YouTube and Instagram. In the teaser, Sullivan says she wrote Heaux Tales to “give voice to every woman.”

Even though a half-decade passed since the “Bust Your Windows” singer released a studio album, Sullivan continued to release music through collaborations with Frank Ocean (“Alabama,” “Wither,” “Hublots,” and “Rushes”) and Pentatonix (“Joyful, Joyful”) alongside music for the show, Insecure.

The EP includes clips of six women, Antoinette, Ari, Donna, Rashida, Precious, and Amanda, telling their stories with Sullivan’s songs following their corresponding audio tracks.

In addition to the six women’s dialogue clips, Heaux Tales also features musical collaborations from Ari Lennox, Anderson .Paak and H.E.R.

Sullivan’s fans on Twitter praised her newest offering, saying the album is “real R&B” and that Sullivan “set the tone for R&B this year.”

Sullivan previously received 11 Grammy nominations, four NAACP Image nominations, two Soul Train Music nominations, and won a BET Centric Award in 2009.

Sullivan’s Heaux Tales is now available to stream on Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal. The EP is available for digital download only.
