Sharing to CBS This Morning on March 8, Oprah Winfrey responded to many questions regarding her interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Winfrey shared her input, details, and understanding of Prince Harry and Markle’s interview regarding their departure from the British Royal Court.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview landed almost a year after they decided to leave the British Royal Court. Initially a three-hour and twenty-minute interview, Oprah and her team had to cut down the interview to an hour and twenty-five minutes to include the most important questions and answers.

Winfrey shared that the most important question that she wanted to get out of the interview was ‘why did they leave?’

According to Today, “Prince Harry has opened up about the reasons behind his historic split with the British royal family, saying the ‘toxic’ press environment in Britain was ‘destroying’ his mental health.”

Many tabloids made it seem as if the couple left and blindsided the Queen. A plethora of media outlets claimed that the couple, along with their son Archie, just up and left with minimal preparation.

Despite this, the couple’s interview exposed the Royal Family and their advisor’s lack of attempts to help the couple escape the harsh criticism from the United Kingdom tabloids.

Winfrey commented on the twisted narrative saying, “Truthfully, there was a statement by the Queen, her Majesty the Queen, on January 18 in which she said, ‘Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased together, we have found a constructive and supportive way for my grandson and his family.’”

Winfrey refuted this as she explained the months of preparation the Queen and the couple went through. She gave insight into Prince Harry and Markle’s understanding of the toxic environment they had been in.

“I think they agreed to do it, wanted to do it, were ready to do it, because when you have been lied about for a series of years, I think anybody – you can understand this- if in your own office or in your own family, somebody is saying things about you that are not true and how hurtful that is,” Oprah Winfrey stated on CBS This Morning

The institution versus the family was a major topic in the initial hour and a half interview with the couple. During CBS This Morning, Winfrey expanded on the truth behind the British Royal institution and family.

For the British Royal Family, the institution behind them is the royal advisors. The institution is very close to the family, with a history of help spanning hundreds of years for the monarchy. They give a majority of influence and input towards the family’s actions, responses, and much more.

CBS This Morning‘s interview with Winfrey seemed to show the multiple complications of this ordeal. Tabloids and false speculation arose despite being inaccurate, according to Prince Harry and Markle, and the Royal Family made no attempt to disperse the falsities.
