Demi Lovato is taking transparency to a whole new level in her new docuseries, Dancing With the Devil. She opens up about her difficult road to recovery following her overdose in 2018. The production of her documentary began in the Spring of 2020, almost two years following her overdose. Lovato is sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly that resulted in her addiction. The documentary features extremely vulnerable interviews from former team members, family, and close friends.

The first episode of her docuseries premiered on March 23. She is revealing the unknown events that occurred following her overdose. Lovato opens up about the detrimental effects her overdoes had on her physical health. She suffered three strokes, a heart attack, and brain damage. As well as, having blind spots in her vision has resulted in her not being able to drive and even sometimes miss the cup when pouring a drink due to her vision.

Fans have been praising Lovato across social media for her vulnerability and strength to open up about such a dark time during her life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2019, “nearly 71,000 people died from drug overdoses in America.” It was the leading cause of injury-related death. Studies show that almost 21 million Americans struggle with addiction, yet only 10% receive treatment. It is a real problem that is not talked about. Lovato is using her experience and her platform to open up and hopefully reach someone who is struggling in the same way she has.

In an interview with Glitter Magazine, Demi explains what she has learned about self-love and mental health throughout her recovery. She explains that what she learned is far more than just mental health. She wants her life to be about spiritual growth so that she can help people. She says, “That is how I navigate through my day; how are my choices today going to affect those around me in a positive way? How am I going to better myself today? So, hopefully, people can see that in my documentary as well.” It has been two years since she has come face-to-face with what she says was the darkest point of her life. She is now ready to share her story with the world, which is exactly what she is doing.
