HBO Sets Season Two Premiere Date For Comedy Series ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’

After a long 19-month pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Emmy-nominated series A Black Lady Sketch Show created by comedian actress Robin Thede is finally set to debut its second season this April. The second season will feature six episodes consisting of new sketches with returning cast members such as Issa Rae (Also executive producer), Gabrielle Dennis and, Ashley Nicole Black. The comedy series will be influencing loads of laughter along with guest stars that are also set to make appearances.

A Black Lady Sketch Show was previously scheduled to begin filming back in March 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in their plans forcing the crew to shut down all production. On a lighter note, the show was eventually able to presume and get back on set.

After a successful season one that touched on a plethora of relatable topics that fell under sex, dating, religion, and many other social norms, the show will be premiering with their second season and delivering six episodes just as the first season. The comedic favorites who were present from the last season will also be returning except Quinta Brunson due to scheduling conflicts.

In addition, many A-list guest stars will be gracing viewers’ screens such as Gabrielle Union, Ayesha Curry, Lance Gross, Kim Wayans, Jesse Williams, Skai Jackson, and many more. Two new members will also be joining the cast, Laci Mosley and Skye Townsend.

Thede took to Instagram on March 23, posting a video discussing the upcoming season of A Black Lady Sketch Show, captioned, “ABLSS is back April 23.”

The hilarious sketch series was created by comedic actress and writer, Thede who was also the head writer for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. Thede was also the first Black woman to be head writer for a late-night talk show and now the first to create, show run, and write for an all-black female cast show. 

The series has already been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards and won the TCA award for outstanding achievement in sketch/variety shows. A Black Lady Sketch Show, season two will be premiering on Friday, April 23 on HBO at 11 pm. Follow the official Instagram for the show to stay updated.
