Bebe Rexha Doesn’t Want to Be Put in a Box: Talks New Album, Sexuality, and Much More

Bebe Rexha graced the online cover of Gay Times this week and left no stone unturned when it comes to her life. Rexha starts off the interview by explaining the shock that came into her life as she rose to fame from the song she created with Florid Georgia Line, "Meant to be". However, many in the industry did not believe in her, even including the duo featured on the song. Rexha stated, "What am I gonna do, not put out a song that sounds like a hit? Do you know how many [potential] hit songs I probably have sitting on my computer because somebody didn’t believe in it?" so she released it in her own EP.

Rexha talks of how important it is to make a move in your career, and trust in yourself like she did. After recording vocals for the song “Hey Mama” by David Guetta, she was not credited for her part. Apparently, there were already “too many features on the song” such as Nicki Minaj. But she never gave up on herself and got her credit added in 2015.

Rexha has a large following within the LGBTQ+ community. This is due to her openness, honesty, and ability to be unafraid to tell it how it is.

When talking about her own sexuality in an interview from 2020, Rexha stated, “I consider myself fluid. Until I find ‘the one,’ I can’t just say what I am. I just want to find someone I love and who loves me – and I don’t care if that’s a boy or a girl.” Rexha admitted in her interview with Gay Times, that she has been in love with a woman before, and even dated fellow celebrity women. Her attraction is based on whoever “inspires her” at the time.

The singer lets us know that her journey with defining her sexuality has been a difficult one. Stating that, “It’s just so hard because everybody wants to put people in boxes and I don’t like boxes, as you can tell with my music, I don’t like boxes whatsoever.” She is happy, yet surprised that her music could “actually give people strength” and support fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community.
