Nia Long (Fatal Affair) and Storm Reid (Euphoria) will be starring in the upcoming sequel for the box-office hit film, Searching. The story driving the next installment will be different from the first film featuring a brand new cast of characters.

Originally debuted at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, the original version of Searching quickly became a Screenlife thriller grossing at $75.5M. The story revolved around a father, David Kim (John Cho) who breaks into his 16-year-old daughter’s computer to track her down when she mysteriously goes missing.

According to Deadline, the plot for the mystery thriller sequel is still in progress. However, it will not only include a new set of characters and story but will also follow the Screenlife format where the story will unfold through the characters’ electronic devices.

Veteran actress Nia Long was recently announced as a cast member shortly after her new co-star, Storm Reid.

Aneesh Chaganty, who created, directed, and wrote the first film, will be returning as a writer. Since the first Searching, Chaganty has also directed and written Run, which was released last year. The cast will also include Daniel Henney, Joaquim de Almeida, Amy Landecker, Ken Leung, Megan Suri, and Tim Griffin. The upcoming sequel will be the directorial debut for Sundance 2018 editors, Will Merrick and Nick Johnson. Merrick and Johnson also worked with Chaganty on his film Run.

Searching 2 will be released in 2022. In the meantime, you can stream the original movie on Prime Video.
