Somi is Head Over Heels in her Latest Single ‘DUMB DUMB’
Somi is back at it with her new single “DUMB DUMB,” released on August 2. Over a year since her last comeback, “What You Waiting For” was released, and the K-pop world is ready to see Somi in action again. This time, she went for the early 2000s popular-girl aesthetic with the casual jock love interest. Somi has one goal: to woo the boy she likes at school. However simple the song’s concept is, The Black Label has not failed to give fans a catchy beat and cinematic experience to savor amongst other approaching comebacks in August.
The song is bright and alluring, while the chorus reveals a catchy electronic beat. It matches Somi’s style perfectly, adding a little bit of spice while remaining in Somi’s own realm of music. She was one of the three writers for the track, working with TEDDY and Danny Chung. Somi’s rich voice creates an illusion of maturity even though the song discusses the simple girl-likes-boy cliche. She also has a large vocal range, as shown during the switch from high to low notes throughout the pre-chorus. The chorus completely consists of low notes that Somi pulls off perfectly.
