Olivia Rodrigo started her career at a young age, and after branching out from Disney, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez helped her in the music industry. The singer debuted her first album, “Sour,” at 18.

The “Driver’s License” singer, Olivia Rodrigo, warmly welcomed the music industry. So, former Disney actress Selena Gomez, and her idol Taylor Swift, gave the young singer advice on how to handle the music industry.

Olivia shared in an interview with Variety, “It’s so nice to be welcomed into the music industry and so great to be supportive of other women.”

The actress starred on the Disney Channel series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Shortly after, Rodrigo began her solo career as a songwriter and singer debuting her top-chart hit song, “Driver’s License.” During the song’s bridge, Rodrigo dropped the f-word, which is uncommon for Disney stars.

But, the singer explained her reasons behind it during the interview, “People ask me all the time, ‘Oh, did you just swear so that people would know that you’re not a Disney kid anymore?'”. She later added, “It truly isn’t a calculated decision in my head. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna be an edgy kid now.’ I just tend to have a very dirty mouth, and I think that obviously reflects itself in my songwriting.'”

Besides, Olivia never signed with Disney Music Group’s relatively straitlaced Hollywood Records as the other Disney alums. This drift is crucial to step away from kid-friendly lyrics. Thus, her first album Sour.

It can be overwhelming for a teenager to become a big star. Former Disney actress, Selena Gomez, helped the new singer handle her way through the industry. Rodrigo shared that, “I met Selena, and she was so kind. She talked to me about prioritizing mental health, which I think is really important in this industry. All of us were in the limelight very young. … That can be taxing on your psyche and can bring about all these weird issues.”

Taylor Swift was also an influence on Oliva’s success. The singer had many experiences in the industry that turned into helpful pieces of advice.

Rodrigo recalled a letter that Taylor wrote her, “She wrote me a letter a while ago, and she wrote something about how you make your own luck in the world, and how you treat other people always comes back to you.”

Oliva Rodrigo’s songs are a depiction of what she is “feeling intensely” at the moment. And, she admits in the interview that fans are relating to her songs. That helps her navigate through the craziness of the music industry.
