Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry has shared a different side of herself on social media, and fans are shocked by such a transformation. Berry has transformed herself into a UFC fighter named Jackie Justice. The actress is making her directorial debut for the Netflix film with Michelle Rosenfarb behind the script.

Halle Berry always posts stunning red carpet looks because we all love to see a good fashion moment, but on October 15, the actress shared a new movie she’s been passionate about for three years now, Bruised. The title offers a glimpse of Berry bruised and bloody as she plays a down-and-out UFC fighter.

As the trailer progresses, viewers watch Berry fight to stay alive. She’s disheveled, wearing tattered clothes, no eye makeup, and struggling to make ends meet as viewers watch her clean toilets for a living. Her world comes to a crashing halt when her estranged son’s father unexpectedly dies. After Jackie is told that she cannot take on a child after falling on hard times, Desi (Adan Canto) says, “She’s a fighter.” Bobbi (Sheila Atim) replies, “That look like a fighter to you?” These comments allow Berry’s character to fight to reclaim her power as both a mother and UFC fighter.

Berry went through rigorous training to embody the role of Jackie Justice. In an essay she wrote for Women’s Health, the actress elaborates on her training. She writes, “I had to look (and perform) like a professional MMA fighter, so, in addition to practicing MMA for four hours every day, I was also doing about 45 minutes of general strength training and 15 minutes of work just on my abs. We threw the kitchen sink at my core and, let me tell you, it took serious dedication.”

In addition to her extensive training, Berry was also trained by Valentina Shevchenko, the women’s UFC flyweight champion. Shevchenko appears as “Lady Killer” in the film.

Bruised will take viewers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. For fans of the underdog, this is a film you cannot afford to miss. The trailer is available to watch above. Bruised will hit theaters on November 17 and Netflix on November 24.
