The Astroworld death count has increased after a nine-year-old boy passed away from his injuries. Ezra Blount was pronounced dead at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. On Sunday night, Ezra was put into a medically induced coma after suffering from his injuries from the Astroworld fatal crowd surge. He is the tenth victim to die from the deadly stampede.

“The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son,” the Blount family’s attorney Ben Crump said in a news release Sunday night. “This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, what should have been a joyful celebration.”

According to Ezra’s grandfather, Bernon Blount said his son, Treston Blount attended the festival so Ezra could go “see his favorite artist.” It was when rapper, Travis Scott, started performing is when the crowd surged. Then Treston Blount lost consciousness, which led to Ezra falling off his father’s shoulders, thus, trampling and crushing him.

“When my son went to the concert, he had my grandson on his shoulder,” Blount explained. “All the people pushed in, and he could not breathe, so he ended up passing out because of all the pressure that was being applied to his body. And when he passed out, Ezra fell off his shoulder and fell into the crowd.”

Immediately, Ezra was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, where he went into “cardiac arrest which damaged his heart.” This led to Ezra being put on life support, where he suffered from trauma to the brain, kidney, and liver. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner took to social media to express his condolences for Ezra’s death.

Authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the fatal crowd search, leaving ten dead and hundreds injured. Live Nation, the festival’s promoter, is helping with the investigation so families and fans can “get the answers they want and deserve.” Ben Crump is serving as Blount’s attorney after the family filed a lawsuit against Travis Scott, Live Nation Entertainment, Cactus Jack Record, Scoremore Management, and others. The family is seeking one million dollars in damages.
