Reveal of The Batman Poster Sends Message to ‘Unmask the Truth’
Warner Bros. has just released a new poster to advertise their upcoming movie, The Batman.
The poster features Robert Pattinson, who will play the character, Bruce Wayne with a huge red cryptic question mark tied to The Riddler over him. His alter ego, Batman, is in the midground, surrounded by other central characters in the film: The Riddler (Paul Dano), The Penguin (Colin Farrell), and Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz). The poster also offers another glimpse at the charger Batmobile.
The unveiling of the new poster and the cryptic message, “Unmask the Truth,” led fans to wonder about its relationship to the movie. When the news hit about another rendition of the Batman film series, fans were excited when they found out this would not be like any other Batman movie. This film will not be another origin story. Instead, it will tell the story of Bruce Wayne during his initial stages of becoming the vigilante, Batman.
The film’s synopsis reads:
“Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies – Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) – amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
When explaining the reasoning behind this, the director of the film, Matt Reeves, stated to Nerdist, that
“He’s a very alive character. And to me, to tell a version of Batman where, again, it wasn’t about how he became Batman, but it’s about the early days of how he is Batman…I wanted to do not an origin tale, but a tale that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is.”
Reeves also shared, “What excited me and the thing I related to in the Batman story was that he isn’t a superhero in the traditional sense…You know, he might have a cape, but he can’t fly. He’s like you and me. But if he has a superpower, it’s the ability to endure. And not only the ability, but the kind of compulsion.”

‘‘I sincerely believe that the tone of ‘The Batman’ has nothing to do (opposed to the previous movies), it feels new. In the comics, Batman is someone more… unstable. If you read between the lines, it’s actually very sad. (1/3) pic.twitter.com/3lu8gscoEI
Reeves added, “Like this guy, he’s majorly struggling, and this is how he’s trying to rise above that struggle. But that doesn’t mean that he even fully understands, you know. It’s that whole idea of the shadow self and what’s driving you, and how much of that you can incorporate, and how much of it you’re doing that you’re unaware of.”
With this exciting new take on the Batman film series, fans are excited to see how the movie will play out.
