On March 16, Sydney Sweeney took to Instagram to share her latest endeavor: Madame Web. The talented actress is starring alongside Dakota Johnson, who landed the titular role last month.

In the comics, the character of Madame Web is depicted as a “paralyzed, elderly woman with myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune disorder requiring her to connect to a life support system resembling a spider web.” Her abilities were a big help to Spider-Man when she first appeared in the 210th issue of The Amazing Spider-Man comics.

Madame Web is a historic moment for lovers of the Marvel universe. This marks Sony’s first modern comic book adaptation that features a female in the lead role. It also happens to be one of several Spider-Man-related spinoffs in development. This picture is set to have S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) direct. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the Madame Web screenplay.

Sweeney’s role in the film has not yet been revealed, and neither have any upcoming plot details. Although most notably known for her role as Cassie Howard on the HBO hit, Euphoria, she can also be found in Sharp Objects opposite Amy Adams and The White Lotus.

Sweeney is still keeping busy while she prepares for this epic new role. She is currently filming National Anthem, starring alongside Euphoria co-star Eric Dane and close friend Halsey. Sweeney’s character is named Penny Jo, who sports strawberry-hued locks, a vast comparison from the bombshell blonde we all know her as.

Congratulations to Sydney Sweeney on another exciting role. We cannot wait to watch her make her mark in the Spider-verse. Fans can stream her latest series, Euphoria, on HBO Max.
