Olivia Wilde Served Custody Papers Onstage at Latest CinemaCon

After a woman approached Olivia Wilde and served her legal papers onstage at CinemaCon, convention organizers are “reevaluating” their security measures. While the 38-year-old filmmaker discussed her upcoming thriller Don’t Worry Darling, she was handed a manila envelope titled “Personal and Confidential” by an audience member. At first, Wilde thought she was being given a script and proceeded to open it. However, the envelope did not contain a script but custody papers from her ex-partner Jason Sudeikis.

When the Booksmart director was approached with the parcel, she asked, “This is for me?” After opening the letter and reading it over, she stated, “Okay, got it. Thank you,” and resumed her presentation without addressing its contents. A source confirmed that the envelope contained court papers pertaining to Wilde and Sudeikis’ two children, Otis and Daisy.

According to Sudeikis’ close source, the Ted Lasso actor did not know how his former fiancé would be served. “Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner,” the source revealed.

The nature of the document’s delivery is alarming. CinemaCon’s Managing Director, Mitch Neuhauser, shared his thoughts on the matter. “As the convention organizer, we have never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate has approached the stage who was not authorized to be there,” Neuhauser told PEOPLE. “In light of this incident, we are re-evaluating our security procedures to ensure the safety of all of our attendees.” He was unable to confirm if the woman had CinemaCon access or if she was apprehended afterward.

In September 2020, Wilde began working on her second film, Don’t Worry Darling. She cast Harry Styles as the lead and herself as his opposite. Two months later, Sudeikis and Wilde split after a seven-year engagement and two children together. Then, in January 2021, the director and the English pop star started dating

Close sources claim Sudeikis and Wilde have “transitioned into a great co-parenting routine” since then and that their children are their top priority. After Tuesday’s events, we hope the former couple can resolve the matter privately, and that convention organizers will make things right.
