Sci-fi fans are in luck because a new Doctor Who cast member has been announced, and new Hollywood starlet Yasmin Finney is signing on.

Yasmin Finney has stolen everyone’s hearts, and fans can’t get enough of her. Finney recently had her breakout role as Elle Argent in the new hit Netflix series Heartstopper. The British beauty has no intention of pausing the acting game with a new role in Doctor Who.

The Manchester native will portray a character named Rose for the show’s 60-year anniversary. This isn’t the first time the iconic sci-fi series has had a character by that name. Billie Piper played a character named Rose Tyler in 2005, opposite Christopher Eccleston’s portrayal of the ninth doctor. It’s unknown whether Finney will be playing a new version of that Rose or a completely different character of the same name.

Finney expressed her gratitude and excitement regarding her casting. She stated, “If anyone would have told 8-year-old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them,” Finney gushed. “This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself, Russell has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get ready.”

Yasmine Finney’s casting is important for so many people in the LGBTQ people as she herself is transgender, while Bethany Black was the first trans actor on Doctor Who in 2015.

Finney will make her Doctor Who debut in 2023. Until then, you can watch Heartstopper on Netflix.
