After a six-month-long hiatus, the widely loved YouTuber, Emma Chamberlain, has started uploading videos to her channel again. A lot is changing as she revamps her video/editing style, but she’s still the same Emma we know and love.

Emma Chamberlain’s YouTube channel grew insanely fast. From her first video five years ago, she’s been authentic and comforting, and ever since has been known for her relatability. Her audience appreciates the realness she brings to YouTube because she doesn’t glamorize her life or make it seem like it’s always perfect.

Since her return two weeks ago, Chamberlain has uploaded two travel vlogs, which fans can watch below.

“the truth about youtube”

In February of 2020, Chamberlain started the podcast “Anything Goes.” She sits in her bed with a microphone and has open, raw conversations with the audience, which falls perfectly in line with her relatable, comfortable YouTube personality. She uploaded episodes on schedule throughout her YouTube hiatus.

This past February, she released an episode titled “the truth about youtube” in which she discusses why she needed a break from uploading. As audiences, we often forget how little we see of an influencer’s life. “No one really knows about what’s going on behind the scenes,” Chamberlain stated in the episode.

Chamberlain stated that the years of her weekly upload schedule meant thinking about YouTube from the time she woke up to the time she went to bed. She got burnt out but wouldn’t give herself a break. Chamberlain remarked, “You’re not allowed to get burnt out because all you have to do is film a video, edit it, upload it and then move onto the next week.”

Chamberlain also mentions a seemingly toxic narrative in the community of YouTubers that if you don’t upload for a week, you’re going to become irrelevant. She got to a point where that narrative no longer mattered. Finally, she told herself, “I need to step back and heal from the years and years of burnout.”

For Chamberlain and many other content creators, YouTube is a space to be freely creative. But the consistency of Chamberlain’s videos blocked that potential for her. “I felt like the weekly video structure wasn’t giving me enough time to experiment and grow creatively,” she expressed.

The Last True Influencer

With the rise of TikTok in the last few years, the term “influencer” has lost a lot of its original meaning. Before the app blew up, reaching a million followers on any social media platform meant you were big in the influencer world. Now, there are hundreds of people on TikTok with millions of followers that much of the online world doesn’t know.

Previous to TikTok fame, influencers catered their work to a certain group to appeal to that audience. There was more intention behind content creation. Now, TikTok has made it so that you can dance to a song, and, if the algorithm favors you, you can be an influencer.

Because of this change in the term “influencer”, a lot of people now talk about how Chamberlain was one of, if not the last, true influencers of the social media world.

The Return

Other than the podcast episode, Chamberlain has refrained from talking about YouTube during her break. Instead, she’s been focusing her life on herself. “I didn’t have any room to develop hobbies or passions outside of it, and I need to do that. I need to do that for my own happiness,” Chamberlain stated.

There’s no guarantee of what her recent uploads mean for the future of her channel. Chamberlain is taking her life day-by-day, and dedicating more time to her happiness. It seems that her goal is to not have such strict expectations for Youtube and to make her channel what she wants on her own time, in her own way. “I never see myself leaving YouTube for good, but I definitely see myself leaving the way I used to do YouTube,” she voiced.

Fans are ecstatic that Chamberlain has returned to YouTube. Many took to Twitter to share their excitement regarding her return.
