It’s about time we go easy on Adele for the decision to postpone her January Las Vegas residency. She hopped on the cover of ELLE Magazine and opened up about the situation she calls “the worst moment” of her career.

Between glamorous shots of the artist styled in Fendi, Givenchy, and Cartier, she discussed the process of creating the show surrounding her newest album, 30, and what led to her gut-wrenching decision.

In the tearful video posted on January 20, Adele explains that the show isn’t ready and they will have to postpone. For her, it was a tough decision because her team was thrilled with the work they produced amidst the Omnicron surge, and she thought about how a postponement would impact them. However, she knew it was the best choice for her as an artist and person. The show included all of the bells and whistles or “trappings and special effects” you would expect from a Las Vegas show, but that’s not who Adele is.

She stated, “There was just no soul in it… It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment.”

The night before the video went live; Adele hit her breaking point. During the first song of the dress rehearsal, she nearly walked off the 15,700-square-foot stage, sat at the edge, and began to sing acapella. That’s when she knew the show couldn’t go on.

At first, she mentions the embarrassment she felt, to the point where she went into hiding and used a burner account to read her Twitter mentions. She knew fans were disappointed, which was the hardest thing for her, but she also knew she would be doing fans a disservice if she produced a show that lacked authenticity.

In the end, Adele continues to stand by her decision and is proud of herself because “it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did. I’m very proud of myself for standing by my artistic needs.”

Fans don’t have to wait much longer as the new and improved “Weekends With Adele” Las Vegas residency is set to open this November and will run until March. If you want to get in on the beautiful and nostalgic show, grab your tickets here. Be sure to check out Adele’s full feature in ELLE Magazine.
