SZA Cast in New Film Tuna Melt
Grammy award-winning singer SZA is making her film debut in the Eddie Huang dramedy, Tuna Melt. The “Drew Barrymore” singer joins Chloe Cherry, who rose to stardom through her role in the HBO series Euphoria.
According to a press release, Tuna Melt is likened to “an updated Pulp Fiction meets High Fidelity.” The filmmaker will lead his film as a hitman who unexpectedly meets the love of his life after completing a job. SZA plays Huang’s love interest, and Cherry’s role has not yet been disclosed.
SZA is a perfect addition to this cast. She made her first major music debut in 2017 following the release of her record, Ctrl. She released a deluxe edition in honor of the record’s fifth anniversary in June. SZA won her first Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Doja Cat for their pop smash, “Kiss Me More.”
Cherry is most notably known for her role as Faye in Euphoria. The drama created by Sam Levinson stars Zendaya (Dune), Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus), Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo), Alexa Demie (Mid90s), Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time), Maude Apatow (The King of Staten Island), Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth), Barbie Ferreira (Unpregnant), and Angus Cloud (North Hollywood).
Eddie Huang, the film’s writer/director, made his directorial debut in the film Boogie, a basketball drama that featured the late Pop Smoke. He published a book in 2013, Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir, which was quickly adapted into an ABC comedy series that lasted six seasons. He has also appeared as a host of cooking shows, Cheap Bites & Unique Eats, and Huang’s World.
Here at Glitter, we cannot wait to watch Tuna Melt. SZA will undoubtedly make a great actress on the silver screen, alongside Huang and Chloe Cherry. No additional casting has been announced at this time. Fans can stream SZA’s music on all major music platforms.
