Abbott Elementary’s season one series finale received 5.9 million multi-platform delayed-viewers, so social media traction and, of course, two Emmy wins had new and loyal viewers excited to tune in to the September 21 premiere.

So far this season, we’ve seen the teachers of Abbott prepare for the upcoming school year, where they each face different obstacles, like not having the proper accommodation for disabled students and not having enough time in the year to teach the lengthy curriculum.

Looking toward the rest of the 22-episode season, fans can expect to dive deeper into the teachers’ homelives as that wasn’t the main focus in season one. Writer and star of the series Quinta Brunson mentioned that she was focused on writing solid and lovable characters for the school environment, but with 14 additional episodes compared to last season, there is more room to learn more about the teachers.

As for the highly-anticipated relationship between Janine and Gregory, only time will tell. Tyler James Williams (Gregory Eddie) stated, “I mean I think there’s always something simmering there…I think it’s pretty clear that Gregory is interested. It’s just a matter of timing really, at this point.”

Catch Abbott Elementary Wednesday nights at 8 PM on ABC and the next day on Hulu.
