The trailer for M3GAN reveals that Gemma (Allison Williams) develops an android with her knowledge of artificial intelligence. As a result, the brilliant roboticist builds M3GAN, also known as: Model 3 Generative Android, to be the greatest playmate a child could ever have. However, after the death of her niece’s parents, Gemma welcomes Katie with open arms, alongside the M3GAN prototype.

At first, the doll seems friendly and completely harmless. But things take a horrific turn when M3GAN overrides her programming and goes on a killing spree.

Despite M3GAN’s popularity on social media, Chucky rises to the occasion to put the android in her place.

Chucky returned to the limelight with his new slasher series, Chucky, released in 2021. On October 12, the killer doll replied to the M3GAN trailer, “everybody’s tryna be me.” The tweet went viral overnight, starting a back-and-forth Twitter feud between the vintage doll and the android.

M3GAN clapped back with, “u know u that doll when u cause all this conversation,” with a GIF featuring her taking off her glasses in a suave way. There’s no doubt in our minds that she is the subject of many people’s conversations right now.

Ever since viewers saw M3GAN swinging her hips and doing an aerial cartwheel, the doll has become a viral meme on social media. Many have taken the clips of her dancing and created fan cams of the character, featuring pop songs that encapsulate her “yassification.” M3GAN has even become slated as a “gay icon” to the LGBTQ+ community.

According to the AV Club, M3GAN is a “yassified” edition to the “haunted doll trope.” This iconic trope has been prevalent throughout many Halloween films, such as Goosebumps‘s Night of the Living DummyThe BoyAnnabelle, and of course, the classic killer doll, Chucky.

In addition, Megan Thee Stallion joins in on the hype by referencing Annabelle in a Twitter post. It’s safe to say that the rap icon has a definite connection with M3GAN, due to them sharing the same name. Because of this, she hilariously posts, “Annabelle b*tch your OVER,” with fans supporting the statement. Megan continued to support M3GAN by expressing her excitement for the upcoming film, with M3GAN responding, “see u there bestie.”

Despite the audience’s overwhelming excitement for their new “gay icon,” M3GAN continues to share her distaste for her predecessor. In response to a fan claiming her Twitter account is now a “#M3gan fan account,” the android proclaimed, “as long as ur not a chucky fan account .” M3GAN would continue her rampage by responding to many of Chucky’s tweets to revel in her disdain for the killer doll. When Chucky took to Twitter to tweet, “hello there the killer doll from your nightmare @blink182  #chucky,” M3GAN stabbed her hooks into the Twitter thread, emphasizing, “don’t waste ur time on me.”

The horror film is to be directed by Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) and produced by Blumehouse Productions. M3GAN will star Get Out actress Allison Williams alongside Violet McGraw (Katie), known for her work in The Haunting of Hill House and Separation. Jenna Davis (Maggie) will be voicing M3GAN, and Amie Donald (Sweet Tooth) will be the face of the murderess android. The movie will be released to theatres on January 13, 2023.
