The most distinct voice in late-night television, Trevor Noah, has announced his plans to leave his series, The Daily Show. Now, Comedy Central is looking to shake things up in his absence. Noah, who began hosting the show in 2015, will appear in his last episode on December 8. After that, the series will go on hiatus until January 17.

In an announcement from Noah, he mentions that he wants to take a step back from the show’s demanding schedule and wants to continue “exploring.” The Born A Crime author stated, “I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss just being everywhere, doing everything.” He continued to thank his correspondents, production staff, and of course, his fans, calling the series one of his “greatest joys.”

Noah’s departure shocked viewers and production alike, thus delaying the announcement of a new host. Comedy Central is considering rotating panels of hosts for an indefinite period following the show’s hiatus as a part of what the network calls a “reinvention.” Ideally, this new format would resemble Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segments in which the hosts bounce back and forth on commentary between trending news stories.

There is no word yet on definite options; however, the network has its eyes on Roy Wood Jr. or Jordan Klepper, who stepped into Noah’s shoes for one episode.

Although Comedy Central has not commented yet, they knew at one point, or another Noah would leave the hot seat, which they stated, “In time, we will turn to the next chapter of ‘The Daily Show,’ and all of our incredible correspondents will be at the top of that list. Until then, we are focused on celebrating Trevor and thanking him for his many contributions.”
