Say Goodbye to Free Extra User Accounts on Netflix
The days of sharing Netflix passwords are over after the recent announcement that Netflix will begin charging extra for accounts with more than one profile.
In early 2023, Netflix plans to charge extra fees for accounts with additional users. So forget your best friends’ login details and get ready to create your own. We can expect a price increase of about $3 US dollars per user based on countries that have already implemented this change.
Netflix announced that in early 2023, they will begin charging for ‘extra users’ on accounts. It will be interesting to see how this impacts their business and how customers respond.

Netflix released new information in their recent quarterly earnings call that they will be launching different levels of subscription plans. In November, they will launch their “Basic with Ads” plan. This subscription plan will be Netflix’s more affordable option, with a low price of $6.99 US dollars per month, and is primarily for new users. Customers who opt for the cheapest plan will not only have up to five minutes of commercials for every hour of streaming but also miss out on ten percent of the platform’s inventory due to licensing issues.
As stated in Engadget Magazine, this change is already underway in Latin America, where they charge extra fees for each additional user account. Every account on the “Who’s Watching?” screen will soon cost users $3 to $4 US dollars per month.
Luckily, Netflix will allow users to transfer their profiles into independent accounts before this change goes into effect. Netflix also will make it easier for customers to manage their devices and create extra members if they are willing to pay for sub-accounts.
I’m curious about this may impact my ability to watch my @netflix account while I’m outside of my home. I travel a lot for work and like to stream while doing so.#Netflix #UsersAccounts #mobiledevices https://t.co/2QOj9LcETw

This new plan is Netflix’s attempt to regain subscribers after a considerable loss earlier this past year to Hulu and Youtube TV. Engadget Magazine also states, “The streaming service said it lost nearly 1 million subscribers (970,000 to be exact) in Q2. That’s far more than the 200,000 member decline from Q1, but not as bleak as the 2 million Netflix was prepared to part with.”
With the release of new shows like Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story and the highly anticipated new season of Stranger Things, Netflix gained an additional 2.4 million accounts in the third quarter of 2022.
Netflix’s “Basic with Ads” plan will launch in November. It will be interesting to see how this change will affect Netflix and its user experience. To stay up to date with these upcoming changes, follow along with Nextflix’s press releases and follow their social media.
