Michelle Yeoh Joins New Wicked Adaptation
Fellow Ozians, rejoice. Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) has joined Jon M. Chu’s two-part Wicked adaptation.
Michelle Yeoh will embody the role of Madame Morrible, the head of the school where Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) are students. Apart from the talented Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Yeoh also joins Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), and Ethan Slater (Boq).
Chu took to Twitter to share the news. He writes, “It took one tweet to convince the ICON (and dear friend) #MichelleYeoh to play our Madame Morrible in #WickedMovie. Am I the luckiest director in the world to get to work with her again?! Spoiler alert: yes I am. Welcome to Shiz.”

Erivo and Grande were the first confirmed cast members joining Wicked. Many were thrilled by such a pairing, and Chu updated fans with even more great news: Wicked would receive two films.
Chu attempted to cut songs and shorten character arcs, but he felt those decisions would ultimately harm the film, especially since Wicked is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. He expressed, “Cynthia, Ariana, and I –and all of the cast and crew — pledge to create nothing less than an experience that honors its foundation for all the fans who’ve waited for this movie, and to offer a thrilling, fantastical world full of dynamic characters that invite those in who are unfamiliar.”
In October, Grande uploaded a photo of herself sporting blonde hair for her role as Glinda the Good Witch. Both Grande and Erivo have continued to tease fans with the beautiful work happening in Oz.
Wicked continues to round out its stellar cast. We cannot be more excited to watch these films on screen. In the meantime, fans can watch Michelle Yeoh’s incredible performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once on Showtime.
