Daisy Edgar-Jones Cast as Carole King in New Film Beautiful
Daisy Edgar-Jones is teaming up with Sony Pictures once again. After collaborating together on When the Crawdads Sing, the Normal People actress is set to star as the iconic Carole King in a film adaptation based on the Tony-winning project, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
The film will be directed by Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are Alright). Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg penned the most recent draft of the screenplay, which is based on Douglas McGrath’s book of the musical.
Producers on the film include Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and Paul Blake, who also produced the stage show. Sherry Kondor, Christine Russell, Steven Shareshian, and Mike Bosner will serve as the film’s executive producers.
Carole King spoke to Variety expressing her thoughts on Edgar-Jones, stating, “Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognized as myself when I was younger. She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance.”

The stage show, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, ran on Broadway for five years and earned Jessie Mueller a Tony Award for her performance. The musical contained a string of King’s most successful hits, including “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” and “You’ve Got a Friend.”
Daisy Edgar-Jones rose to prominence for her role as Marianne opposite Paul Mescal in Hulu’s romantic drama, Normal People, and later starred opposite Sebastian Stan in the thriller, Fresh. More recently, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for best-supporting actress, for her role in FX’s Under the Banner of Heaven.
