Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Banshees of Inisherin Lead the HCA Film Awards Nominations
The Hollywood Critics Association announced the HCA Film Awards nominations with Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Banshees of Inisherin in the lead.
Everything Everywhere All at Once has been lauded as a multiverse masterpiece. Directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, both have created a film that explores the endless possibilities and lives of a struggling laundromat owner, Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh).
This magnificent film has led the HCA Film Awards with nine nominations. Known for her roles in Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Michelle Yeoh has been nominated for Best Actress in her lead role as Evelyn Wang. Ke Huy Quan (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for embodying Michelle Yeoh’s film husband, Waymond Wang. In addition, Stephanie Hsu (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween Ends) have both been granted dual nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
The HCA has already recognized the A24 film for its beautiful cinematography and visual effects, granting it seven nominations for the HCA Creative Arts Awards. Thus, Everything Everywhere All at Once proves it is a cinematic spectacle in its visuals and ensemble cast.
Martin McDonagh has written and directed Searchlight Pictures’ black-comedy, The Banshees of Inisherin. The film takes place in the fictional Irish isle of Inisherin, where a folk musician, embodied by Brendan Gleeson, ignores his close friend, Pádraic Súilleabháin. The Banshees of Inisherin depicts a heartbreaking story of the end of a friendship.
McDonagh’s film received a total of seven HCA Film Awards nominations. The film is on the run for winning Best Picture and Best Director for none other than Martin McDonagh. In addition, Colin Farrell (The Lobster), who portrays Pádraic Súilleabháin, receives a nomination for Best Actor in recognition of his emotional performance. Avengers: Infinity War star, Kerry Condon, has also received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Not only was the director and cast nominated for the HCA awards, but their eerie, somber but whimsical music was also animated for Best Soundtrack for the HCA Creative Arts Awards. Therefore, The Banshees of Inisherin received a total of eight nominations from the Hollywood Critics Association.
Focus Features’ TÁR, Sony Pictures’ The Woman King, and UA Releasing’s Women Talking are all female-centric films that have garnered five HCA Film Awards nominations. Each film has also been recognized for HCA’s prestigious nomination, Best Picture.
To add to the excitement, RRR, and The Fabelmans received four 2023 HCA Film Awards nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. HCA has also nominated Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and many more reputable films.
