Glossier just reformulated its cult favorite product, the Balm Dotcom, and given both the product and its Insta-worthy packaging an upgrade.

While the flavors look and smell the same, the new Balm Dotcom now has better ingredients that still resemble the original formula that we all know and love. The beloved Glossier product that made its debut in 2014 received “a few touch-ups” before its relaunch this year. Glossier made these upgrades based on “community feedback, scientific advancements, and regulatory changes” to enhance the already-iconic formula.

The Formula

The multi-purpose balm that many use to hydrate chapped lips, dry patches, and even cuticles was initially made of petrolatum, a non-renewable byproduct of petroleum. However, the no-makeup-makeup brand opted to switch this ingredient with castor jelly, a new vegan, renewable alternative. Castor Jelly is also said to give the same occlusive barrier that the original balm did, except the new formula does not leave you with a greasy finish.

Besides the castor jelly, Balm Dotcom 2.0 includes nourishing Vitamin E to hydrate and synthetic beeswax and a natural emollient blend to seal the moisture. As opposed to using the non-vegan lanolin, which felt dense and slightly sticky, the new formula is known for its buttery, non-greasy texture that leaves us with smoother, juicier lips.

The Packaging

If there was something everybody loved about the new Balm Dotcom, it has to be the new changes made to their iconic packaging. It now comes with a smooth, slanted round-edged applicator that helps control where and how much product you want to use. Unlike the older version, which was prone to spills and over-squeezing (leading to product waste), the new version is perfect for a finger-free application. This added convenience not only helps avoid the sanitation concerns of transferring impurities from fingers to the balm but also ensures that the product is used more efficiently, maximizing its value.

The beautifully tinted shades remain the same, delivering a lovely touch of color to enhance your lips. It is currently offered in Original, Rose, Mint, Mango, Berry, Birthday, Lavender, and Coconut flavors. Unfortunately, the brand chose to discontinue the Cherry flavored balm. However, we can expect the return of Wild Fig, a previously limited edition flavor that was highly requested by customers.

You can find these timeless Balms and other Glossier products here. It is now also conveniently available in any Sephora store near you.
