Lady Gaga Breaks the Internet With First New Photo in Joker: Folie à Deux
Happy Valentine’s Day to all who celebrate. Lady Gaga and Todd Phillips continue to tease the new DC sequel to the 2019 Oscar-winning film, Joker.
Todd Phillips has officially broken the internet. The filmmaker unveiled a first-look photo of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix in character for the Joker sequel. He simply wrote, “Happy Valentine’s Day.” The post with Gaga grabbing Phoenix’s face sent fans into a frenzy.
Following the release of Joker, many were anxiously awaiting news of a potential sequel. After all, the film went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, with $1.07 billion worldwide. In addition, Joker received eleven Oscar nominations, with Phoenix winning his first Oscar for embodying Arthur Fleck and his alter ego, Joker.
In June 2022, Phillips confirmed that Phoenix will be returning for the film’s sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. Although Phillips posted the script, no plot details were divulged; however, rumors began circulating the internet with Lady Gaga rumored to be joining the cast.
In August, Gaga took to Instagram to unveil a listing of herself in the film. The singer is reportedly playing a version of Harley Quinn, a role that is heavily associated with Margot Robbie. The Babylon actress embodied the iconic character in three films: Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey (2020), and The Suicide Squad (2021).
Phillips’ sequel is stated to be a musical, proving to be a perfect artistic choice. Lady Gaga is known for being an award-winning musician. Joaquin Phoenix also has musicianship, having portrayed the legendary Johnny Cash in the 2005 biopic, Walk the Line, opposite Reese Witherspoon’s portrayal of June Carter Cash.
