Maggie Rogers electrified audiences with her return to Radio City Music Hall on Wednesday, February 15. The “Be Cool” singer performed to a sold-out crowd.

After Grammy-nominated artist, Maggie Rogers returned to the music scene with her sophomore record, Surrender, in July, many have eagerly awaited the chance to watch her perform live on The Feral Joy Tour. Her former bandmate, Samuel Holden Jaffe, of Del Water Gap, served as her opening act.

In preparation for her sold-out concert, Rogers uploaded a photo of her and Jaffe taken a decade ago. Rogers felt nostalgic, writing, “10 years later… these kids are playing radio city.”

Fans loved the Del Water Gap reunion after the pair performed “New Song” together. However, the crowd really went wild after Rogers announced for one night only, the one and only David Byrne would take the stage. The Talking Heads frontman and Rogers performed “Strange Overtones” along with some stellar dance moves.

The “Horses” singer expressed her admiration for Byrne. He famously made a cameo in Rogers’ song, “That’s Where I Am.” She shared their collaboration, “I cold emailed him. We’d never met. I’m a massive fan.

Byrne responded to Rogers’ email, stating, “[He] was just like, ‘Yeah, I’m getting my haircut downtown tomorrow. Where? What time?’ He was like, ‘Yeah great. I’ll ride my bike over. I think I can hang for like 20 minutes’.” The rest is history.

The song selection of “Strange Overtones” is vital for Rogers. She states, “‘Strange Overtones’ was a song in the pandemic that I just deeply connected to and played over and over and over again. So he feels a part of this record in my brain because I was so connected to that song.”

Rogers thanked Byrne on Instagram, expressing, “this man’s work is so deeply woven into my musical DNA. never getting over this one. thank you @davidbyrneofficial. i’ll remember last night forever.”

Congratulations to Maggie Rogers on an incredible show. David Byrne and Maggie Rogers’ duet is available to watch below. Surrender can be streamed on all major music platforms.
