Up in Flames: Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun’s Love Story Ends
As of February 21, Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun are no longer engaged after more than two years together.
The couple met through their mutual friend, Machine Gun Kelly, and eventually formed a connection through making music. They had been engaged since April 2022. In their announcement photo, Mod Sun is seen kneeling in front of Lavigne near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
There seems to be confusion about the state of their relationship. A spokesperson for Mod Sun, states that “They were together and engaged as of three days ago when Mod left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him.”
However, this is contradictory to another source who claims that “Avril and Mod Sun have been on and off for the past two months, but are no longer together as couple.”
Mod Sun is currently on tour in the United States and Canada with the band Stand Atlantic as well as Tom the Mail Man in promotion of his new album, God Save The Teen.
Both musicians have played a role in the pop-punk revival of the 2020s. Other prominent musicians in this new era of pop-punk include Yungblud, Jxdn, WILLOW, and Huddy. With 2000s hits like Sk8er Boi, Complicated, and Girlfriend, Lavigne went back to her punk roots on last year’s album Love Sux. The album featured musicians, such as Blackbear, Machine Gun Kelly, and Mark Hoppus from the band Blink-182.
On the other hand, Mod Sun started his solo rap career in 2009 and released his debut studio album in 2015. He recently turned to pop-punk with his 2021 album Internet Killed the Rockstar. Lavigne and Mod Sun have collaborated together, with their songs “Flames” and “Shelter.”
Last Monday, TMZ published photos that revealed Lavigne hugging the rapper Tyga outside of the sushi restaurant Nobu in Los Angeles. However, a source has stated that the two are “genuinely friends and nothing more.”
