Avril Lavigne Releases New Album Love Sux

Ryan McFadden

The Pop-Punk Princess is back. Avril Lavigne released her seventh studio album, Love Sux, on February 25.

Avril Lavigne unveiled Love Sux, her first record since 2019’s confessional album, Head Above Water. Love Sux, the twelve-track album, is a certified pop-punk classic. Lavigne’s album made its debut under good friend and collaborator Travis Barker’s label, DTA Records.

Love Sux features collaborations with Machine Gun Kelly (“Bois Lie”), and Blink-182 bassist/singer Mark Hoppus appears on “All I Wanted.” Prior to these collaborations, Lavigne shared “Love It When You Hate Me” ft. blackbear last month. The Love Sux era began back in November, when she shared the first single, “Bite Me.” The track was reminiscent of the singer’s early days, fused with extra guitar and drum-heavy chords.

The Canadian singer announced the title of her album on January 13. In an interview with Billboard, the “Complicated” singer spoke about Love Sux in comparison to Head Above Water. She reveals, “I think especially after my last album being so mellow and dramatic and deep and introspective — you know, it was beautiful, and it was where I was at in my life, and that’s what worked for me at the time. But I was just ready to get back out there, rock the f—k out, and again just thinking about the live shows. I mean, this is the kind of music I fell in love with, when I was old enough to buy CDs, to discover bands — like, my first year of high school, which is grade nine in Canada.”

Lavigne really wanted to return to her roots, recalling to Billboard, “I went into this album and just said, ‘I want to make a pop-punk record, a rock-and-roll record. I don’t want to be on the piano. I don’t want ballads, really. I just really want to rock out.”

Fans could not be more excited over new Avril music, as it is a true pop-punk masterpiece.

Congratulations to Avril Lavigne on a solid new album. Love Sux is streaming on all major music platforms.
