The Mayor of Glendale announced that the city will be renamed Swift City during the two days Taylor Swift kicks off her sold-out Eras Tour in Arizona.

On Monday, Mayor Jerry Weiers announced Glendale’s temporary name change at a press conference. Along with his announcement, he stated, “All swifties are encouraged to share their smiles that can light up this whole town on all the social media platforms because the best people in life are free.”

The press conference featured festive balloons, a banner of Swift’s tour poster, and celebratory Swift City t-shirts. In addition to the mayor’s announcement, the Maricopa County city’s official tweeted, “#GlendaleAZ is so ‘bejeweled’ for @taylorswift13’s #TSTheErasTour that we’re renaming the city in her honor.” This name change is supported by an official proclamation signed by the Mayor and Deputy Clerk that is filled with references to some of Swift’s most famous songs.

On Twitter, fans are already referring to Jerry Weiers as Mayor Swiftie with many people asking for one of the Swift City shirts he held in a photograph at the conference. Others are expressing remorse that they do not live in Swift City. Ultimately, everyone has agreed that this is yet another iconic achievement for Taylor Swift.

This is just one of many monumental accomplishments for Taylor Swift following the release of her tenth studio album, Midnights. The album saw immediate success upon its debut, dominating the Billboard charts. With Midnights, Swift broke the record for most simultaneous top ten hits and most top ten hits off the same album.

Furthermore, the announcement of her first tour since 2018 broke the internet. When Swift’s first round of concert tickets went on sale, TicketMaster crashed due to the unprecedented amount of people desperate to see her perform live. Needless to say, Midnights and the Eras Tour are some of Swift’s biggest triumphs to date.

The hype around the Eras Tour has remained unmatched for months. Now, all eyes are on the global pop star in anticipation of what could be her most iconic stadium tour. The first performance of the Eras Tour is on Friday, March 17. Swift will give two back-to-back shows in Glendale before jetting off to the subsequent locations on her tour.
