Selena Gomez Makes Surprise Appearance in Tribute Video for Taylor Swift
At the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Selena Gomez shared some heartfelt words in a tribute video before Taylor Swift took the stage to accept the Innovator Award.
On March 27, the “Anti-Hero” singer appeared at the 10th annual iHeartRadio Music Awards to accept the highly esteemed Innovator Award. The honor is meant to honor musical artists who have impacted global pop culture. Past recipients include U2, Pharrell Williams, and Alicia Keys.

Before the singer/songwriter took the stage, many of Swift’s peers spoke about her impact in a dedication video. From Dolly Parton to Ed Sheeran, many celebrities sang Swift’s praises. The most notable among them was Swift’s close friend, Selena Gomez. Swift and Gomez’s friendship spans a decade-and-a-half, beginning when they were both relatively new to the industry. Over the years, they have expressed their continuing admiration for each other.

Gomez expressed nothing but praise for the “Bejeweled” singer stating, “She can represent what she’s walking through so well. She’s a role model. I don’t think that’s something you sign up for; I just think it’s something you inherently have inside of you, and I think that’s Taylor.”

Following the heartfelt sentiments, Swift took to the stage to accept the award. Looking stunning in an Alexander Vaultier couture ensemble, the performer shared an awe-inspiring speech. Swift shared that she never planned to be an innovator- in her own words, she declared, “what I did do was try to make the right decision for me at the time, whether or not it had ever been successfully done before.”
Swift then imparted some great advice to those watching, “You have to give yourself permission to fail.” She continued, “I try as hard as I can not to fail, because it’s embarrassing, but I do give myself permission to and you should, too. So go easy on yourselves and just make the right choices that feel right for you.”
Both artists have been killing it this year. In 2023 so far, Swift received another Grammy Award and began her blockbuster Eras Tour. Gomez has scored another hit song to add to her wonderful discography.
