NMACC: Everything You Need to Know About the Gala That Celebrates Indian Art and Fashion

Gigi Hadid, Emma Chamberlin, and Zendaya among many other celebrities attended the Nita Ambani Cultural Center (NMACC) in Mumbai for its opening weekend. The center was built to celebrate India’s influence in the world of art and fashion.

The NMACC had a grand opening with classical dance and music performances in various visual arts, costume, and theatre-focused spaces. The event was a homage to the many talented artists of India and the cultural influence it has on the world.

The event honored the multifaceted impact that traditional Indian garments, textiles, and crafts had on Western aesthetics since the eighteenth century. It was curated by The World of Interiors editor-in-chief Hamish Bowles and designed by Patrick Kinmonth with Rooshad Shroff.

Moreover, the exhibition includes artifacts tracing the history of the sari, and showcasing the influence of Indian textiles and silhouettes on Western couturiers. For instance, Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and even Christian Dior are some designer brands that drew inspiration from Indian fashion. The exhibit not only honored historical artists and craftsmen but even the mastery of contemporary Indian couturiers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Anamika Khanna that put modern Indian fashion on the map.

A lot of famous faces from Bollywood and Hollywood showed up to the event in their finest jewelry and bedazzling outfits made by some of the leading designers of the country. Gigi Hadid was seen wearing Rahul Mishra‘s dreamy creations on the opening night. Zendaya and Law Roach also collaborated with Mishra on the second night titled India in Fashion.

Zendaya’s was decked in a beautiful deep blue sari embellished with gold and silver accents that honored nature, with flower, star, and bird motifs.

In addition to her Rahul Mishra outfit, Hadid also wore an ensemble honoring India’s traditional sari. It comprised a stunning custom-gilded gold blouse and an off-white Chikankari sari by the highly regarded designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

Emma Chamberlain wore a mesmerizing yellow Falguni Shane Peacock lehenga with the brand’s signature touch of ostrich fur on the second night. However, she too debuted her Indian red carpet in a Rahul Mishra gown for the opening night.

Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, Tom Holland, Penelope Cruz, and Karlie Kloss were among other Hollywood celebrities that were also in attendance.

It’s safe to say that guests at the NMACC gala spared no effort in donning attention-grabbing ensembles. The launch was nothing short of spectacular and marked a high point in the celebration of Indian fashion history.
