Zendaya recently revealed that she has a hard time understanding British “rhyming slang,” despite Tom Holland’s attempts at explaining it to her.

Zendaya and Tom Holland have both made names for themselves in successful franchises. Zendaya became the first Black woman to win two Emmys for Best Actress in a Drama Series. This award was for her embodiment of Rue in the HBO hit series Euphoria. The pair starred alongside one another in the most recent Spider-Man movies, eventually becoming an onscreen couple.

Allegedly, the pair has been together since 2016 or 2017. There was no public confirmation of their relationship until July 2021. Last year, the two reportedly purchased a £3 million home in Richmond, close to where Holland grew up. Fans can’t help but love the couple, gushing about them online.

The couple has been largely private. However, Zendaya recently shared new insight into their relationship with The Sun. The new detail comes with adjusting to life in London, specifically British slang. The star explained, “I love the British accent, but as much as Tom tries to explain it to me, I will never understand rhyming slang.” She continued, “I understand the concept — but what do apples and pears have to do with stairs?” Zendaya concluded, “It’s cute when he tells me all the different phrases — but I really don’t get it!”

Fans online have had a mixed reaction to Zendaya’s confession. Many found it cute and made memes about the situation. On the other hand, some felt as if the comment was a generalization about British accents. However, people came to Zendaya’s defense as rhyming slang is not generally well known to those outside of the UK.

Holland and Zendaya recently stunned on the red carpet at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre’s opening alongside stars like Gigi Hadid and Emma Chamberlain. On the trip, a clip of the two being followed by paparazzi went viral, making a lot of people online uncomfortable.

To see the fan-favorite couple in the latest Spider-Man installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home is streaming on Starz.
