Olivia Wilde is gearing up for a collaboration with A24. The actress-turned-director is giving the television treatment to Jennifer Egan’s best-selling books: A Visit from the Goon Squad (2010) and its sequel, The Candy House (2022).

Egan’s novel, A Visit from the Goon Squad, received the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The book is structured into thirteen parts and offers readers a different protagonist to tell their point of view. All characters are connected by nostalgia in some way. In addition, many peripheral characters find themselves to be connected to Bennie Salazar, an aging music producer who struggles to come to terms with technological advancements within the music industry.

The Candy House is also critically-acclaimed. Some of the characters created by Egan are revisited in the sequel.

Olivia Wilde delivered nothing but praise for Egan’s storytelling. She writes on Instagram, “Mom’s been busy. Very excited about this. Go read these books immediately if you haven’t. Jennifer Egan is a genius and this is going to be a lot of fun.”

Wilde has proven herself to be an in-demand director. She made her directorial debut in the 2019 comedy, Booksmart. The picture featured Kaitlyn Dever (Ticket to Paradise), Beanie Feldstein (Lady Bird), Molly Gordon (Shiva Baby), Billie Lourd (Star Wars sequel), and Diana Silvers (Ava). Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Lisa Kudrow (Friends) were also featured in supporting roles. Booksmart won Wilde the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.

Wilde’s most recent work is Don’t Worry Darling. The stellar cast included Florence Pugh (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), Gemma Chan (The Eternals), Sydney Chandler (Chemistry), Nick Kroll (Big Mouth), Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Chris Pine (Wonder Woman), Douglas Smith (Big Love), and Harry Styles (My Policeman).

An A24 x Olivia Wilde collaboration will undoubtedly deliver two new incredible series. Fans can purchase Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad and The Candy House at select bookstores.
