Niall Horan announced his new single, “Meltdown,” will be released Friday, April 28, as the debut of his third solo album approaches.

On Thursday, the former One Direction star tweeted about the latest release from his forthcoming album, The Show. In the tweet, Horan shared the uplifting meaning behind the song, explaining, “The song is basically about feeling anxious and being in that kind of freaking out moment but knowing deep down that everything will be alright.”

Along with the song announcement, Horan also unveiled the single’s cover art in which the star stands casually in a dim, minimally decorated room. Horan wears a neutral, retro outfit and gazes to the side with a somewhat distressed look on his face.

“Meltdown” will be the second single released from Horan’s highly anticipated third solo album, The Show. The first single from the album, “Heaven,” peaked at No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of six weeks on the chart.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Horan revealed that he still sends his unreleased music to his former One Direction bandmates for feedback. The X Factor alum added that with this album, he sent music from The Show to Louis Tomlinson, asking for his honest opinion. Horan explained, “We’ve released enough songs over the years, so we know what’s decent and what’s not.” With Tomlinson’s apparent stamp of approval, The Show will likely not disappoint.

Horan began his solo music career in 2016, following One Direction’s split. Initially, the musician released two hit singles, “This Town” and “Slow Hands.” Both songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and appeared on his 2017 album Flicker. Horan then released his second solo album, Heartbreak Weather, in 2020. Now, three years later, fans are excited to get new music from the global star finally.

Along with his personal music ventures, Horan is also currently a coach on The Voice. This is the singer’s first season on the hit television series that has produced stars such as Cassadee Pope and Morgan Wallen. Horan sits in good company, with Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Chance the Rapper also competing as coaches on the program’s twenty-third season.

The Show will debut on June 9. In the meantime, fans have the upcoming release “Meltdown” to look forward to.
