The late Carrie Fisher will be honored posthumously with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 4. This well-deserved recognition is a long time coming for the legendary actress, who paved the way for women to star in blockbuster sci-fi films.

On May 4, affectionately known as Star Wars Day, Carrie Fisher will finally receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ana Martinez, a Hollywood Walk of Fame producer, revealed that Fisher will join her Star Wars co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk.

Martinez adds, “I am happy to add that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds!”

Carrie Fisher is most notably known for embodying the role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise. She appeared alongside Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo). Arguably her greatest role in cinema, Star Wars, has gone on to become quite the family affair.

Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, also played a role in the universe. Lourd portrayed a young Leia and Lieutenant Connix in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lourd continues the tradition and honors her mother’s legacy every May 4.

In addition to Fisher’s work in Star Wars, she appeared in several films. Her credits include Hannah and Her Sisters, When Harry Met Sally, and The ‘Burbs.

Apart from acting, the actress was also a published author. She released her semi-autobiographical novel, Postcards from the Edge, in 1987. Fisher would go on to adapt the book into a film in 1990. Postcards from the Edge featured a stacked cast that included Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia!), Shirley MacLaine (Steel Magnolias), Annette Bening (American Beauty), Dennis Quaid (The Parent Trap), Richard Dreyfuss (The Goodbye Girl), Gene Hackman (Superman), and Rob Reiner (Stand by Me).

Following the success of the novel and film, three novels and two memoirs have followedDelusions of Grandma, Surrender the Pink, The Best Awful, Wishful Drinking, and Shockaholic.

We congratulate the late Carrie Fisher on this long-overdue recognition. Her work will continue to live on and inspire generations to come. Fans can watch any Star Wars film with a Disney+ subscription.
