Elle Fanning Boards New Film A Complete Unknown
Elle Fanning (The Great) is joining Timothée Chalamet (Dune) and Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick) in the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
James Mangold is directing the project for Searchlight Pictures with a script penned by Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York). The drama film is described as a “transformative moment for Dylan, the legendary singer-songwriter who made his mark during the civil rights and counter-culture upheaval of the 1960s.’

Chalamet embodies the role of Bob Dylan, an influential singer-songwriter known for a string of hits that would include “Like A Rolling Stone,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Mr. Tambourine Man,” and others. Dylan was awarded The Nobel Peace Prize in Literature in 2016 “for creating new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
In addition to that accolade, he received the Presidential Medal Of Freedom from former President Barack Obama in 2012. The medal is the “highest civilian honor and is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
Apart from Chalamet’s casting of Dylan, Monica Barbaro has joined the film embodying activist and singer Joan Baez. She was an honoree at the 43rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors. This is given to those who have made “contributions to American culture through the performing arts — whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television.”
In a statement, Baez expressed, “It has been my life’s joy to make art. It’s also been my life’s joy to make, as the late Congressman John Lewis called it, ‘good trouble.’ What luck to have been born with the ability to do both; each one giving strength and credibility to the other. I am indebted to many for a privileged life here.”

Elle Fanning is reuniting with Chalamet, her former co-star, starring as Sylvie Russo, who was an artist and university student that Dylan was romantically involved with in the early ’60s. No other plot details surrounding Fanning have been revealed.

James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown will undoubtedly be an incredible film honoring the legendary work of folk music. In the meantime, fans can watch Elle Fanning’s performance in The Great on Hulu.
