Unfortunately, much of the plot has been kept under wraps, but fans can expect to see Chalamet singing and dancing. The upcoming film will be exploring Wonka’s early days; therefore, the story fans know of Charlie Bucket and the company will not be making an appearance in the film.

Wonka will be the third film adaptation relating to the famous chocolatier. Gene Wilder portrayed Wonka in the memorable 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Mel Stuart. Over thirty years later, in 2005, Johnny Depp embodied the candy man role in Tim Burton’s reimagined take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Chalamet’s version will be much different, as Charlie and other iconic characters of the golden ticket such as Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt, and Augustus Gloop will not star in the film.

Paul King, most famous for Paddington, will be directing Chalamet in Wonka. David Heyman, who has also worked on Paddington and the famous Harry Potter films, will be producing. Simon Rich has written the screenplay. The film is set for a March 17, 2023 release.

Fans have stormed social media to congratulate Chalamet for landing the famous candy man role.

Chalamet has a ton of movies coming out this year after previously being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Chalamet is set to star as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation as well as Wes Anderson’s film, The French Dispatch. Chalamet has also been cast in Adam McKay’s star-studded disaster movie Don’t Look Up. Fans of Chalamet have a lot to look forward to. Be sure to follow his Instagram account for more updates.
