The Weeknd will likely only make one more album as The Weeknd, he told W Magazine.

The artist was having a bit of an identity crisis in the process of filming The Idol. He had to switch between filming for the series and performing on stage. “I had to take off the Weeknd outfit, put on Tedros’s wig, shoot with Jocelyn, then go back to being The Weeknd,” he told W Magazine.

But the series was not his only identity crisis; he had one in his real life as well.

“It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close The Weeknd chapter. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn,” he explained.

The Weeknd is one of the biggest rising artists in the world right now. He just became the first artist in Spotify history to ever surpass 100 million monthly listeners, he is going for his first-ever global stadium tour in Europe and Latin America this June, and his remix of ‘Die For You’ with Ariana Grande has sat on the Billboard Top 100 for 39 weeks.

Not to mention, his collaboration for the HBO series The Idol with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson will come to fruition in June. According to W Magazine, the story follows Jocelyn’s (Lily Rose-Depp) professional life and struggles while also revealing her complicated romantic relationship with self-help guru, Tedros (The Weeknd), who also happens to be the leader of a secret cult.

While this next album may be the last we hear from The Weeknd, we haven’t seen the last of Abel Tesfaye. Whether it be acting or music, new projects are definitely in his future.
