The Weeknd just became the first artist to reach over 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Just after The Weeknd’s new remix of “Die For You” with Ariana Grande was released last week, he broke Spotify’s record history of monthly listeners. The new remix follows the release of his song, “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength),” in Avatar: The Way of Water from December 2022.

The Weeknd has collected an army of achievements in his over 10 years as an artist. Namely, he has won six AMAs, two BETs, 20 Billboard Music Awards, and four Grammys.

His song “Blinding Lights” just became the most streamed song of all time on Spotify on New Year’s Eve. In January 2022, he beat Justin Bieber’s record for most monthly listeners at over 85 million, with his release of Dawn FM on January 7, 2022, the highest in Spotify history at that time.

He’s at the top by a large gap, with the second artist being Miley Cyrus at almost 83 million monthly listeners. From most to least, the other artists on the list include Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Shakira, Sam Smith, David Guetta, SZA, Drake, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, Bad Bunny, and Dua Lipa.

Fans believe this accomplishment is well-deserved due to his character. The Weeknd has had his struggles in life, in fact he used to be homeless.

He shared that he was still inspired enough to make a new album after Dawn FM. He has been in the studio working on a new project but will not share any more details on the subject. “I’ve definitely been inspired,” he stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve been in the studio.”

The Weeknd is only going up from here. He announced he will embark on his first-ever global stadium tour this year in Europe and Latin America. The second leg of his After Hours Til Dawn tour begins in June 2023.
