In a post from the revived social media accounts is a promotional image from season one of the 2007 series. The post is captioned, “Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you. #GossipGirl”

Not to mention, tagged in the post are four of the main actors, including Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf), Chase Crawford (Nate Archibald), Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey), and Blake Lively (Serena Van der Woodsen). Notably missing are Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass) and Taylor Momsen (Jenny Humphrey); however, since we do not yet know what the potential project is, there’s no call for speculation.

The post garnered comments and shares from thousands of fans wondering what this post meant. Some think a reunion special, while others feel reboots – a second reboot. If we remember, in 2021, HBO Max released a reboot of the 2007 series with an entirely new cast.

It followed the same concept as the original, in which someone new took over the site to continue exposing Manhattan’s elite. The reboot only lasted two seasons and was recently canceled by HBO Max, which once again poses the question, what could this project be?

While recurring actors like Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina Sparks), Yin Chang (Nelly Yuki), and Margaret Colin (Eleanor Waldorf) all made cameos in the reboot, there were no appearances from the prominent cast members.

Many original cast members have hinted at a possible reprisal or paid homage to the former hit series. In an interview on Watch What Happens Live, Chace Crawford mentioned that he might be too old to play a teenage Upper East Sider, but it would be nice for him to come back and play a father.

It won’t be long until we find out what the post meant, but until then, relive all of the messiness of the Upper East Side, check out the original and reboot of Gossip Girl on HBO Max.
