On May 11, YG Entertainment confirmed that BLACKPINK member Jennie Kim will attend the upcoming Cannes Film Festival for her role in The Idol.

Since HBO announced their upcoming series, The Idol, would premiere at the Cannes Film Festival for their “Out of Competition” category, there has been speculation whether cast member Jennie Kim would make an appearance. Thankfully, YG Entertainment has finally confirmed in a statement, “Jennie is attending the ‘Cannes Film Festival’ on May 22.”

Unsurprisingly, many fans took to social media to share their excitement about their beloved performer’s upcoming appearance.

The Idol marks Jennie’s first major acting appearance. Euphoria‘s infamous creative director and showrunner, Sam Levinson, has been the mind behind the upcoming series. In addition, the series will also feature Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Lily Rose-Depp.

The series will follow a popular female singer who begins a romantic relationship with an enigmatic Los Angeles club owner and cult leader. Rose-Depp portrays the female singer, while Tesfaye will act as the club owner/cult leader. Jennie’s role in the series has not been disclosed.

Since its production began, the series has undergone various changes. Recently, and most controversially, it has been the subject of sexism claims- with many of its crew members slamming the show’s sexualized nature.

Jennie’s Cannes debut comes only a few weeks after her Met Gala appearance. On May 1, the star stunned at fashion’s night out in vintage Chanel. As Karl Lagerfeld’s last hand-picked muse, she did not disappoint in an event meant to honor him. In a gorgeous minidress, she looked chic as ever posing for photos.

Between Jennie’s Cannes debut and her mysterious role in The Idol, fans have a lot to anticipate in the upcoming weeks. While we do not know what she will wear to the film festival, we are sure it will be stunning. Those not attending the film festival will have to wait until June 4 to watch the series on HBO Max. In the meantime, they can watch the series’ teaser below.
