Killers of the Flower Moon is becoming one of the biggest films of the year. Even though it has not premiered yet, the movie is already generating Oscar talks. Based on the book by David Grann, the film will follow the murders within the Osage tribe in the 1920s. These murders led to a big investigation with a young J. Edgar Hoover as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The film will come out in theaters on October 6, and the new teaser trailer gives an idea of what to expect.

The trailer came out on May 18. In the trailer, while no one is actually talking, there is a voiceover by Leonardo DiCaprio, who embodies Ernest Burkhart. Dicaprio’s character speaks about the history of the Osage tribe, with shots from the trailer making it look like his words come from a book.

The film takes place in the 1920s, which is clear through the old-timey feel of this trailer. Even though it is not black and white, all the colors are very muted. Instead, the excitement and energy come from the tension of this trailer. The teaser exhibits scenes of the Osage tribe in the fields, clips of the white workers in suits going to factories, and showcasing their worlds clashing when the Native Americans are ostracized by them.

Before this teaser, there had only been a few pictures from the film. Now, there are more shots to scrutinize. Along with DiCaprio, Killers of the Flower Moon had an all-star cast starring Robert De Niro as William Hale, Jesse Plemons as Tom White, Brendan Fraser as W.S. Hamilton, and many more actors. There are also more clips of Lily Gladstone, an indigenous actress who starred in the 2016 indie film, Certain Women, as Mollie Burkhart.

Production for this film began in 2019. Proving his dedication to the project, Scorsese visited the Osage nation for authenticity. He met with the Grayhorse community with more than 200 Osages for dinner. Each of the members spoke about their Osage experience to The Wolf of Wall Street director, giving insight into their culture and history.

Filming was supposed to start in 2020, but Scorsese pushed it back due to the pandemic. After the casting of many cast members in 2020 and 2021, filming began in April 2021 in Oklahoma and finished that October. Recently, Scorsese confirmed that the film will be almost three and a half hours long, similar to his most recent film, The Irishman.
