Asteroid City NYC Premiere: Everything You Need to Know
Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City premiered in New York City this Tuesday, featuring a star-studded carpet and a new pop-up experience.
Asteroid City, the newest film by Wes Anderson, has been eagerly anticipated after its warm reception at Cannes Film Festival. Asteroid City was one of many featured films at Cannes this year; others include Killers of the Flower Moon and Four Daughters (Les Filles d’Olfa). Asteroid City showcases a large celebrity cast, including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeff Goldblum, and Margot Robbie. The premiere occurred at Alice Tully Hall, and all were in attendance.
Wes Anderson is known for his keen eye for aesthetics, and the desert-themed carpet of the New York City premiere reflected just that.
Margot Robbie wowed in her black-and-white Schiaparelli ensemble. The look featured a gorgeous silhouette and a perfect pop of color with Robbie’s bright red nails. The neutral color palette of her wardrobe contrasted beautifully with the pastel background, and and several of her fellow cast members opted for a similar style, complementing the overall aesthetic.

Scarlett Johansson and Maya Hawke also decided to stick to a black-and-white theme. Johansson donned a stunning white Carolina Herrera dress, while Hawke wore custom Prada embellished with a dazzling shock of teal eyeshadow.

The entire cast looked glamorous and seemed overjoyed to bring their film to the cinema screens of New York City.
Asteroid City is Anderson’s eleventh film. His previous films include The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and The French Dispatch. The director has gained a cult following for his signature style, which includes pastel colors and symmetrically framed shots. His cinematography has even sparked a Tik Tok trend in which users attempt to take videos in Anderson’s style.

Asteroid City is set in an American desert town around the 1950s. Focus Features describes the synopsis as “The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.”
The New York premiere also included a unique Asteroid City pop-up at the Alamo Drafthouse with select merchandise and experiences for fans to enjoy in anticipation of the film’s release.
